Food and Wine Pairing

Food and Wine Pairing can be viewed as a mystical art, or as a bit of fun with a touch of science, enabling you to enhance any meal time.

Many wines are great with specific foods, but it is actually easier than you may imagine to pair certain wines with certain foods.

The basics start with white wine is great with fish, or white meats such as chicken, and red wine matches very well with red meats and stew, but for example, did you know that Argentine Malbec is also great with dark chocolate, or that a German Spatlese goes perfect with Chinese food?

Click here for a Food and Wine Matching chart, to find out what to pair with the more common grape varieties used with cooking, such as Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Riesling for cheeses, seafood and desserts and then Pinot Noir, Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon for meat, vegetables, stews and yes, desserts too!

In the different categories below, we have listed some useful pointers to help you decide which of our great wines will go well with the meal, dish or occasion you may be planning.

If you are left in any doubt, or simply wish to pick our brains about Food and Wine Matching, or indeed, any other wine related subject, simply pick up the phone and call 01737 887 568, or email sales (at) buygreatwine.co.uk. We would love to hear from you.
