The Barbera grape is predominantly grown in the Piedmont region of Northern Italy and some other surrounding regions, although in smaller quantities.

Low levels of tannins, great levels of acidity and good vintages can go to make up some fantastic and powerful wines, that show intense flavour with the potential of laying down for many years.

The best examples include:
  • Barbera d'Asti
  • Barbera d'Alba
